Maggie's Birthday...

"Cats are anthropomorphized in art because they are so laid back that you automatically attribute human thoughts, and feelings to them." -Jim Davis (writer of Garfield)

I thought this picture was hilarious, and had to share it...(not my photo...found on the web.)

Yesterday, March 15, was Maggie's third birthday.  What do you do to celebrate a cat's birthday?  Not much, especially when your cat is a picky eater.  Well, she does eat her cat food, but she doesn't like table scraps, cat treats, or milk.  She only likes her cat food, which is good since that is probably healthier for her.  Correction, she does eat bugs, string, tinsel, or any other small object of no taste that might ultimately lead to her death.  But normal things you would think a cat would devour, no such luck.

I couldn't let her special day go by without some recognition to her.  So I sang her "happy birthday" as she was sitting by the door waiting to be let out.  She looked at me like, "What is wrong with you lady?"  That was after taking birthday photos.

No cake... just a cake hat...

"Hmmm.  This does not smell like something to eat...although these flowers look like they might be fun to nibble on..."

"or maybe these candles...they look sort of yummy..."

Doesn't she look good in her hat?

I tried another kind of birthday hat...this one she liked much better.  It had tinsel to eat, something she loves to eat, when she should not...

She loves to go into tiny spaces...

"Maybe I can get my body in here..."

Next I showed her this lovely metal cake decoration...

A sniff here and there, but she was not impressed.

"Just let me go outside...that is the best kind of birthday present."
I let her go outside.  She was happy.  I put away all the birthday items.  Cats are just not impressed with birthdays.  Oh well...Happy Birthday anyway... I love this cat, even if she doesn't care it is her birthday.

Maggie makes a snowman...

"In a meadow we can build a snowman." -Alan Jackson, "Winter Wonderland"

It snowed here...it was like a blizzard!

I took my grandkids out to the bird sanctuary to get some winter shots.
love this photo...

and this one too!
Today the sun was shining, the snow was melting, and Maggie was exploring this unusual white stuff.

"Hmmm...this look like the stuff they call snow.  I think I will make a snowman!"

"Let me see...I think I am supposed to gather up the snow, and roll it into a ball."

"Just like this..."
She's pretty amazing...

"Yep, this seems to be working nicely.  I have a little ball forming. Maybe I will eat it..."
Look at that one claw on her left paw...and the snowball she's holding...
"No, on second thought, I am not going to eat it... I want a snowman...I'll just roll it a little more...I think it has to be bigger..."

"Maybe this way a little bit..."

"Opps...I dropped it..."

"Man, this rolling stuff is hard...and I have to make three balls..."

"Now where am I going to put this snowman...ahh!  I see the perfect place."

"I'll just add some leaves for the eyes..."

"Twigs for the arms..."

"Maybe make a few adjustments on this side now..."

"and some leaves for decorations..."

"Maybe move this over a little to the right..."

"There...all done.  Perfect.  I love my little snowman..."

I think I will call him "Snowy."

"I think I will sit back, and admire my little snowman.  I think I am going to be the next Michelangelo!  Don't you?"

"Brrrr.  It is cold out here.  I think I need a cup of hot chocolate to warm up my paws!

Hey...you in there...can you let me in?  I am ready to come in.  I have had enough fun in the snow for one day!"

Have a happy snow day!
Love, Maggie.

Amazing photos of Maggie and a mouse...

"Never play cat and mouse games if you're a mouse." -Don Addis

Maggie is a good mouser.  Several days ago, she wanted to be let into the house, and unbeknownst to Warren, she had a mouse.  She let it go in the house.  Thank goodness this happened to Warren, and not me.  He caught it, and threw it outside.  Today, I noticed she was playing with something in the yard.  (She is a good lizard catcher, too).  That's what I thought it was, but upon closer inspection, it proved to be a mouse.  I grabbed a broom to hit it to death, but it got away.   Maggie found it again.  She liked to toss it in the air...And I ran to get my camera...

That's the mouse in her left paw...kind of blurry, and I am sure traumatized...

The mouse is right above her mouth...

She does let it run around some...the mouse is at the end of her extended paw...

The mouse is right in front of her face to the left...another gray blur...

Stalking the mouse...

You can just see the hind quarters, and tale of the mouse...to the right of her left paw...

Grab the mouse...

Throw it up again...

Repeat...

This is her "football" catch.  She could have been a receiver.  For the Green Bay Packers, of course.
the mouse is at the end of her right paw...

it's at the end of her left paw...

It is right between her ears...

I just thought this was funny...

holding it by the tale...

You can just see the tale at the left paw...and the mouse in an arch above her arm.

I don't think she liked me getting too close to her mouse...

She's going to take it somewhere else...

She watches it, waiting for it to run away...
At this point, I was afraid she was going to lose interest, and let the mouse get away.  I sure did not want to have it around...so...I grabbed the broom, and hit the mouse.  It was toast.  Gone, as in no longer living.  Maggie was none too pleased with me.

She ran under the trees to get away from me...

to look for new creatures to traumatize...
